This is the first of a series of 5 modular constructions that
together make the 5 Platonic Solids (Tetrahedron, Cube, Octahedron,
Icosahedron and Dodecahedron). The modular strips lock in a
conventional way at the corners of each solid (here, an Octahedron), but they
have no strength, causing the solid to collapse. I made these 'Collapsed
Platonics' as an aesthetic and philosophical alternative to the easily
identifiable, strong, irrefutable, symmetrical constructions
typical of other origami modular designs, and of geometry in general.
